Visitors can gain an insight into the region's wartime past and the story of the infamous Bridge on the River Kwai by experiencing one of the many boat trips and train rides through this historic area, and touring the memorials, museums and cemeteries that have been set up at the site.

A trip to the capital, Bangkok, is highly recommended and offers a complete change of pace, with its vibrant city centre and bustling markets, as well as a tour of a local Mon village, where you can learn about their ancient culture and watch a traditional dance performance. Other places of interest close to River Kwai include Lawa Caves, Tiger Temple, Sai Yok waterfalls and Erawan National Park.
