Ras Um Sid - snorkelling haven at stunning family resort
Ras Um Sid is at the tip of a small peninsula on the southern Sinai Peninsula of Egypt, reaching into the crystal clear waters of the Red Sea. The resort is conveniently positioned between the popular centre of Sharm el Sheikh - known as Naama Bay - and Sharm el Maya, the quieter, old town of Sharm. Just inland on the peninsula is the resort area of Hadaba, which is home to many hotels, ranging from big-name luxury to budget. Ras Um Sid has an excellent beach, and is a big hit with snorkellers because you can swim out directly from the sandy shore. A taxi ride to Naama Bay takes 10 minutes and staying at Ras Um Sid you are only 30 minutes from Sharm el Sheikh International Airport.

Ras Um Sid - enchanting underwater wonderland
The snorkelling at Ras Um Sid is considered truly excellent. This is due to the ease with which you can swim out to the reef, the absence of strong currents on this stretch of coast, the warmth of the water, and of course the astounding array of tropical fish, corals and sponges you will see below the surface. Although the Red Sea Riviera is blessed with year-round sunshine, visitors can hire wet suits from the dive centres and hotels here. Many other watersports are on offer, including scuba diving, wind-surfing, deep sea fishing and boat trips. Hotels at Ras Um Sid are dotted around the spectacular headland, and it is sometimes necessary to use cable car lifts down to the beach below, or take a shuttle bus. Naturally being positioned on the Ras Um Sid headland means you will be spoilt with gorgeous sea and mountain views.

Ras Um Sid - Egypt’s major attractions and historic sites within reach
From Ras Um Sid you and your familyold Sharm el Maya, buying holiday souvenirs from the market and lunching on locally-caught seafood at a traditional  can stroll eatery. For more modern shopping facilities and lively bars and nightclubs, head to Naama Bay. Many visitors to Ras Um Sid take a trip inland to St Catherine’s monastery, the biblical spot where Moses is said to have heard the Lord speaking from the burning bush. Ras Um Sid is also close to renowned Ras Mohammed Marine Park, which boasts a wealth of marine life, and dive sites including Yolonda Reef, Shark Reef, and Anemone City.
