Eurostar takes a step closer to fast journeys into Europe tonight when the Queen will officially open St Pancras International Station.
From November 14th St Pancras will become Eurostar’s new home, with the new High Speed 1 line allowing Eurostar trains to travel at 186 miles per hour and shaving at least 20 minutes off the journey into Europe.
St Pancras which cost £800 million to restore will host tonight’s grand opening by The Queen to signal one week to go until the first Eurostar departure leaves for Lille on the 14th.
The High Speed 1 line means that short breaks to Europe will become even more accessible with a city break in Paris only 2h 15 minutes away, whilst a city break in Brussels is only 1hour 51 minutes away. Eurostar hopes that cutting down the journey times to the continent will persuade less people to take the cheap flights option offered by low-cost carriers such as Ryanair and easyjet.
