Holidays in Puerto de la Cruz Puerto de la Cruz, located on the cooler north-west coast of Tenerife, is the main tourist resort in the north of the island, and is an historic old town with both an air of tradition and modern tourist facilities. The oldest resort on Tenerife, Puerto de la Cruz has been welcoming visitors since the 19th century, when doctors prescribed patients a trip here for the healing qualities of its’ spa, and the generally agreeable warm climate. In the last 50 years, Puerto de la Cruz has established itself as a major resort on Tenerife, whilst still offering a taste of the old colonial era.
Holidays in Puerto de la Cruz – A colonial town full of charm The main beach at Puerto de la Cruz is Playa Jardin - a reconstructed stretch of black sand imported from the sea bed to create a Blue Flag beach, backed by lovely lush gardens full of tropical plants. Smaller rockier beaches are located either side of the resort, and watersports, including diving, are available in Puerto de la Cruz. As well as the beaches, Puerto de la Cruz is home to the aquapark, Lago Martianez, an 8 acre lido containing a series of salt water pools, fountains and waterfalls – cleverly designed by the Canarian artist, Cesar Manrique. Puerto de la Cruz has narrow cobbled streets, historic old buildings and is home to many different types of hotel accommodation. The main centre of the resort is the Plaza del Charco, with its’ picturesque tree-lined streets and grand colonial buildings – a popular place to have a drink and enjoy the street performers. East of here is the ‘new’ town of Puerto de la Cruz, home to the many shops, bars and restaurants, and to the west is the traditional ‘old’ town.
Holidays in Puerto de la Cruz – Plenty of attractions nearby Whilst holidaying in Puerto de la Cruz, in addition to relaxing on the beach or at the pool, there are plenty of things to see and do.
