Prasses Weather

Located in the middle of the north coast of Crete, Prasses is just 5 miles from Rethymnon and about 40 miles from Chania and Chania airport. The pretty little village experiences a typically Mediterranean climate, with gorgeous hot summers (where rain is highly unlikely) and milder winters. Summer temperatures can reach as high as 28C in August. The average winter temperature is 13C, with rainfall being relatively high throughout the winter season.

 

The summer season in Prasses stretches from June to September, with June temperatures rarely falling below 26C – perfect for a trip to nearby Prassano Gorge and a cool paddle in the Platanes River. Through July and August hit the beach at charming Agia Galini (only a short distance away) and enjoy sunbathing, swimming, water sports, boat trips and more as the average temperature climbs to 28C, and there is 12 hours’ sunshine per day. Through September, as the summer season gradually draws to a close, you can still pick up a tan as the average temperature is 26C.

Autumn in Prasses means a drop in average temperature through October and November to 18C, with rain becoming increasingly likely throughout this season. However, some holidaymakers describe Prasses as ‘coming into its own’ during the autumn season as the wealth of excursion options available from the village are made more manageable thanks to the cooler weather. With winter in Prasses stretching from December to the end of February – and with the average temperature being 14C – expect rain at any time until the first flowers of spring begin to appear, and the average spring temperature rises to 18C throughout March, April and May.
