Praia d’Oura, located just east of Albufeira on the Algarve, is a busy resort that caters primarily for families, with a wealth of facilities and great nightlife and entertainment. One of the more commercial resorts of the Albufeira area, Praia d’Oura, meaning ‘Golden Beach’, is still developing and offers a wide selection of hotels, apartments and villas. Known for its’ wonderful expanse of golden sands, Praia d’Oura is a perfect choice for either relaxing on the beach, or enjoying some of the many watersports on offer.

The beach at Praia d’Oura is made of fine golden sands and is very wide and long, stretching around a curved bay, and protected by typical sandstone cliffs. Although the beach is popular, it is extremely large so can accommodate lots of visitors. The western end tends to be the busiest, with a bar and a restaurant on hand for much-needed refreshments, whilst the eastern end across the rocks is slightly more peaceful. The beach at Praia d’Oura offers a wide variety of watersports, including windsurfing, water-skiing, parascending, jet skis and the always popular, banana boat rides, whilst scuba diving can be found in the next cove along. Many boat trips depart from Praia d’Oura - a great way to explore the hidden grottoes of the stunning Algarve coastline - and there are plenty of fishing trips available. There are many smaller quieter coves to be found around Praia d’Oura, and Albufeira can be reached on foot along the coast.

With a bustling promenade in Praia d’Oura catering to tourists needs, the choice of shops, bars and restaurants is huge. Although most places serve a good selection of international food, there are some traditional restaurants in the resort serving authentic Portuguese specialities. Entertainment includes bowling and bingo, and a few popular clubs, and there are lots of other discos locally. Praia d’Oura is great for shopping, with plenty of open-air stalls and street vendors for gifts and souvenirs.
