The coastal resort of Portoroz lies on the Adriatic coast of Slovenia and enjoys a typically mild Mediterranean climate. It sits in a sheltered bay and is of the warmest parts of the country. Portoroz is the best-known beach resort in Slovenia and attracts many to its shores each season, thanks to the hot summer weather and abundance of sunshine.

May and June see pleasant spring-like weather in Portoroz, with highs of 18C - 21C and between 7 and 8 hours of sunshine each day. The resort's sheltered location means that Portoroz escapes most of the winds that blow along the coast, and the warm waters of the sea make swimming and water sports enjoyable. The water temperature starts to rise in June, reaching 21C and rising to 25C during the high-season month of August. By October the temperature of the sea has dropped to 19C, and the resort only sees 5 hours of sunshine and highs of 15C.
