Weather in Porto Moniz - Mediterranean sunshine guaranteed
With its mild sub-tropical climate Porto Moniz is a popular year-round destination. Despite being off the coast of Africa, temperatures are rarely too hot in summer and remain mild in winter thanks to the Gulf Stream. The north-west coast does feel the force of the prevailing winds, which is one reason Porto Moniz’s natural sheltered rock pools are so popular with bathers and families with small children, with the sea inside remaining perfectly calm even when waves are climbing up nearby rocks. Madeira has plenty to offer visitors of all ages, and with temperatures that vary little more than 6ºC from winter to summer, Porto Moniz is an ideal place to see some sun and recharge the batteries.

Porto Moniz Weather – Plenty of summer sun without being too hot
Porto Moniz boasts long hot summers with little rain – around 3 mm for July and August. May and September are also mainly dry and October is extremely pleasant, so there may be bargains to be had for sunseekers who don’t have to worry about children’s schooling. Average temperatures reach around 24°C from July to September and there tends to be about 8 hours of sunshine each day. Humidity is moderate – around 64-68% - and there are unlikely to be any hot, clammy nights to keep summer visitors awake. The only time it’s uncomfortable is on rare occasions when  a hot wind, known as the Leste, blows over from north Africa and this can bring a red dust and cause temperatures to soar as high as 40°C. But this doesn’t last for long.

Weather in Porto Moniz – Warm winters and a near-perfect climate
Even in the depths of winter temperatures in Porto Moniz rarely drop far below an average of 13°C – and that’s at night. On a January day it can still be expected to reach 18°C or 19°C with more than enough sun to provide a welcome break from a north European winter. The weather can be changeable, though. October to March is the rainy season, with the heaviest rainfall in January (around 10.4 cm). But rain does tend to fall in short bursts, and a temporary mist can add to the magic of this amazing spectacular resort.
