Shopping on a holiday in Portimao is the best you will find in the Algarve, and there is an extensive range of stores here selling designer clothes, traditional hand crafted goods, antiques, and even classic shoes at much reduced prices. There are also some great restaurants and cafes available in this area when the shopping bug has finally had enough.
Cruises
As you would expect from a harbour town, there are numerous cruise trips from Portimao that can be taken. Take your pick from a romantic dinner while cruising down the coast, or a lively, drinks and dance cruise, or simply relax on board with a drink and spot some dolphins. Prices are competitive, so be sure to ask around the harbour area.
Deep Sea Fishing
A very popular sport in Portimao is deep sea fishing. There are many operators around the harbour area who will take you around the coast in search of shark, bass and conger. You do not need to be experienced as a professional crew will be on hand at all times.
Beaches
The beaches at Portimao are spectacular. You can choose from the wide golden sands of Praia da Rocha, or head to Ferragudo and the huge stretch of sand at Praia Grande. There is also a windsurfing school here that will teach beginners the basics at very little cost.
Nightlife
The nightlife in Portimao is bustling, lively and energetic. You can choose from a host of bars, clubs and discos, most of which open into the small hours. There is a wide variety of restaurants in Portimao serving fine international cuisine, or if you prefer you can sample some traditional delicacies and excellent local Portuguese wine.
Water Sports
As you would expect from a coastal resort surrounded by beaches, water sports enthusiasts flock to Portimao and the surrounding resorts. Diving, snorkelling and swimming are very popular, and diving operators will take you to some fantastic dive sites along the coast.
