Port Aventura Things to do
Port Aventura Theme Park
Universal’s theme park offers thrills on a big scale. The park is split into five landscaped, themed sections: Mediterrania, with shops, rides and the truly spectacular nighttime Fiestaventura show; Polynesia, a tropical jungle with water rides, a volcano and great lake; China, where you may need to lean against the Great Wall after riding the Dragon Khan eight-looped roller coaster; Mexico, which includes the Hurakan Condor, a 300-foot free-fall ride with 3 seconds of G-force; and the Far West, with cowboy stunt shows, river rapids and yet more rides.
Water Parks
Port Aventura’s Caribe Aquatic Park includes water slides, wave pools and a special swimming area for the young ones, with water jets and Baby Bungee. Gran Caribe is a huge indoor area with slides, saunas and Jacuzzis. A short distance away is the Aquopolis at La Pineda with all kinds of water slides, including the Kamikaze; bumper boats; river rapids and a hydrotherapy pool to recover in.
The Beach Club
An exclusive entertainmanet and relaxation area in a stunning setting, The Beach Club is reserved for guests staying at the PortAventura and Caribe hotels. In addition to the attractive beach, there are no fewer than seven swimming pools.
Barcelona
With restaurants, museums, nightlife and a fine zoo, Barcelona (a little over 60 miles from Port Aventura) has plenty to offer visitors of all ages. Getting around is easy – much of the city is pedestrianised and there is an excellent transport system. Sights include the spectacular Gaudi architecture of the Sagrada Familia and Park Guell; the Barri Gotic, the preserved medieval centre; Las Ramblas, the heart of the city; and the Museu Picasso.
Costa Dorada beaches
The Costa Dorada (The Golden Coast) features 150 miles of clean, soft, sparkling golden sand. Those looking for livelier resorts should head into Salou (which is next-door to the park) or Cambrils, but the coast is dotted with charming towns and villages. The shallow seas and perfect sand make this area ideal for families.
Sightseeing
Nearby Tarragona is worth visiting for its Roman ruins and museums. The monastery at Montserrat offers spectacular mountain views. The Costa Dorada countryside is a delightful region of vineyards, almond orchards, medieval monasteries and pretty villages.
