Nightlife
As you would expect from one of Croatia’s most popular resorts, the nightlife in Porec is unbeatable. There are numerous great bars, clubs and restaurants where you can dine on local or international food before drinking and dancing the night away. Porec and the nearby resort of Rovinj are home to the biggest discos in Croatia and are a popular meeting place for both locals and holiday makers.
Beaches
There are numerous beaches to be explored on holiday in Porec and many more in the surrounding area. Walking either north or south from the town will bring you to either sandy or pebbly stretches of beach. The beaches will get crowded during the summer months but it is very easy to find a deserted stretch of beach to sunbathe on. The warm waters are perfect for the many water activities that are popular in this area.
Diving
The coastline in Istria is perfect for diving and there are many underwater caves, cliffs and sunken wrecks to be explored. There are is no shortage of diving schools in Porec and three day beginner courses are relatively inexpensive.
Excursions
If you fancy exploring the islands in the Istria region or travelling farther then Porec is the perfect base. Porec is the starting point for ferries to Venice and Slovenia and there are also weekly catamaran services from Porec to Trieste. Tickets can be obtained from most travel agents. There are also numerous boat trips from the harbour to the wooded island of Sventi Nikola.
The Basilica
Originally built in the 4th century, the Basilica of Euphrasius in Porec is a remarkable example of a Croatian church. A must see for visitors, there is also a museum and bell-tower to view and enough ancient mosaics and works of art in the bishop’s palace to keep any culture lover entertained.
