General Things To Do Weather
The Town
Porches is situated 5km from the coast, and remains a traditional unspoilt village. Visitors choose Porches for its rural tranquility and authentic charm, with this sleepy town ideal for those in need of a holiday where the emphasis is on plenty of sunshine, leisurely meals in the local bars and restaurants, rounds of golf and maybe even a game or two of tennis.

Beaches
Beaches to visit nearby include the popular Armacao de Pera, one of the longest in the country, and the Blue Flag Praia da Rocha - both with glorious stretches of sand. There are also a host of tiny coves and hidden bays dotted along the coast close to Porches, great for quiet sunbathing.

Sports and Leisure
Active guests can visit the local beaches for water sports such as sailing, windsurfing, surfing, scuba diving, snorkelling and fishing. Motorised water sports such as jet skiing, water skiing and parascending are available at Albufeira and Vilamoura, both a short drive away. Villas, apartments and hotels have pools and tennis courts, and there are facilities for beauty treatments and spa services in Porches, including Portugal's first thalassotherapy centre.

Pottery
Famous for its ceramics, Porches is full of pottery shops, and attracts many holidaymakers to its studios and workshops, which produce pieces featuring both traditional and contemporary designs. Visitors are encouraged to browse the two studios here, with no trip to Porches really complete without the purchase of an authentic handmade piece.

Golf
For golf-lovers, Porches offers a range of courses in either direction from the resort, both 9 and 18-holes, and links and championship courses. The village is also within reach of all 30+ courses in the Algarve, so players are spoilt for choice.

Touring the Countryside
Walking and cycling are popular activities whilst in Porches, and a fantastic way to venture out and discover the beauty of the surrounding areas. The scenic countryside trails and paths are ideal for exploring on horseback, and there are a number of stables close by.

Days Out
Other towns and villages to visit include Alcantarilha, famous for its bone chapel, Lagoa, best-known for its vineyards and Silves, home to a historic castle. Portimao has a lively port and good restaurants, whilst the busy centre of Albufeira is just 15 minutes away.

Water Parks
For a fun family day out, there are choices of parks to visit, all offering a complete change of pace from sleepy Porches. Choose from Slide and Splash and Aqualand, or Zoomarine in Guia.
