Playa del Cura Things To Do

things to do in playa del cura

Beaches
Playa del Cura is a fantastic little place to go on holiday if you like to sit in the sun but prefer to stay away from the crowds. Find a hotel with a good pool area and its own lively nightlife and you’ll have a great time here, relaxing and peaceful.  The beach is made up of stony, coarse, black volcanic sand so you’ll probably want to venture further afield for sand and beach fun. Rumour has it that a new marina and an imported sand beach are being planned, so watch this space!

Shopping
Playa del Cura has its own small but comprehensive commercial centre, so if you just want to stay put and relax you won’t have to leave the area for supplies. It enjoys enough decent restaurants, cafes and bars to keep you busy and entertained. There’s a well stocked   supermarket, plus a few typical Gran Canarian souvenir and gift shops.

Nearby Resorts
Playa del Cura is within easy reach of a handful of excellent resorts, so as a quiet place to base a wider-ranging holiday, it does the trick.  Enioy Amadores, a new-ish resort with its own long stretch of golden sand, imported from the Caribbean. Or take a local bus to San Augustin, whose six mile long beach promenade delivers you right into Playa des Ingles. Try Taurito, where the black sand beach is enormous, with a fantastic, absolutely huge public swimming and leisure pool surrounded by attractive water features. Or visit Meloneras, whose commercial centre offers a really good choice of stylish, contemporary restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars, plus top class designer shopping.  And there’s Bahia Feliz, an older resort with much more character than the rest and a distinct North African feel. Here you’ll also enjoy pretty, shady gardens, parks and a lovely four mile seaside promenade.

Puerto del Mogan

Just north of Playa del Cura, easy to reach by local bus or hire car, is the pretty traditional fishing village of Puerto del Mogan. The village has an attractive harbour bobbing with small fishing boats, which is surrounded by excellent fish restaurants. By long tradition, the village’s streets are decked out with masses of gorgeous flowers which make a stunning picture against the turquoise sky.
