Playa del Ingles, or ‘the Englishmans’ Beach’ as it aptly translates to, is a lively resort on the south coast of Gran Canaria. The largest resort on the island, Playa del Ingles is a very built-up area, and very popular with the British, with hordes of young 18-30’s descending on the resort throughout the summer months. During the rest of the year, Playa del Ingles is much quieter, and attracts more families, with its’ year-round sun and wealth of facilities.

The main beach in Playa del Ingles stretches for 1km along the coast, however the resorts’ position sandwiched between neighbouring Maspalomas and San Agustin, means that all three share the same 8km stretch of Blue Flag award-winning beach. Behind the beach sits the famed sand dunes of Maspalomas, one of the biggest attractions on the island, with its’ array of protected wildlife and secluded sunbathing spots, and camel rides are offered throughout the area. Playa del Ingles is a heavily developed resort, with many apartment blocks and hotels, and a promenade lined with shops and bars. There are also lots of shopping centres throughout the resort, selling duty free goods, including designer clothing and electrical goods, and a huge array of souvenir shops. Playa del Ingles is easy to get around, with a good bus service and a road train running through the length of the resort, however there are a lot of steps from some areas leading down to the beach.

Playa del Ingles is a loud, brash resort, ideal for groups looking for lazy days on the beach and wild nights partying in the bars and clubs. The main area where the action can be found is the Kasbah centre, home to clubs such as Pacha and Cream, and plenty of bars and pubs. There are English pubs and Irish bars, and a thriving gay scene in Playa del Ingles, and tourists can find everything from Macdonalds and Sunday lunches, to traditional local fare. There is a wide choice of activities in Playa del Ingles away from the beach, including golf and mini-golf, tennis, skydiving, go-karting, horse-riding, camel-rides and scuba diving, and great day trips to try include water parks and numerous theme parks nearby.
