Playa La Arena - striking family beach resort in west Tenerife
Playa La Arena on the west coast of Tenerife is a stunning natural beach formed of black sand - a by-product of the island’s volcanic past. The resort behind it, along with neighbouring Puerto de Santiago is a growing tourist centre, offering ideal accommodation for family holidays in the sun. It’s a quieter spot than some of Tenerife’s more boisterous resorts, so would suit those in need of a relaxing holiday.

Playa La Arena - clean beach and great coastal walks
From Playa La Arena visitors can enjoy the majestic black cliffs, black sandy beaches and interesting little coves that characterise this region of Tenerife. Many hotels and apartments in Playa La Arena are located on hills above the bay, so offer fantastic Atlantic Ocean views. The beach is gently shelving, affording good swimming and paddling conditions, and the seafront has been planted with palms and gardens to provide a striking lush backdrop. Clear weather permitting, you can see across the water to neighbouring Canary Island, La Gomera.

Playa La Arena has been awarded the European Blue Flag for cleanliness, so your children can enjoy the sand and water in total safety. For watersports fans, wind-surfing and diving lessons and equipment are on hand, while there are amusement arcades, shops and plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby to amuse the family between beach sessions.
From Playa La Arena you are just a mile away from the Acantilados de los Gigantes - ‘cliffs of the giants’. Travel northwards up the coast and you’ll find these awe-inspiring 600m high cliffs that appear to be erupting out of the ocean. Many holidaymakers opt for a boat trip to get the best views of these rocky giants, or spend an afternoon on the small beach at Los Gigantes to admire the unique scenery.

Playa La Arena
Playa La Arena resort is under 20 km from Mount Teide National Park, Tenerife’s inland natural wonder, which is not to be missed. Guided trips allow visitors to learn how Mount Teide’s volcanic eruptions, the last of which happened over 200 years ago, created this bizarre lunar landscape.
Reina Sofia, Tenerife’s south airport, is under 30 km from Playa La Arena.
