Platanias Holidays – Very lively established west Crete resort close to Chania
Platanias is a lively established resort running alongside a long soft sandy beach on the west coast of Crete. This former fishing village is now one of Crete’s busiest resorts and one of the biggest and most popular spots in west Crete. Breaks here have the attractive historic   cosmopolitan town of Chania close at hand, just 8 miles away. Platanias is ideal for those looking for an extensive beach, plenty of facilities and shopping, a big selection of restaurants, bars and entertainment. The resort being west facing, its beach tavernas and bars are an excellent place for sunsets. Nightlife here tends to extend well into the night. Platanias holidays are based around an excellent long sandy beach that is over a mile long and a short walk from the village. Mikro is another superb stretch of sandy beach within walking distance and quieter beaches may be found to the west of Platanias beach. The water is clean and strikingly blue. Holidays in this resort can take advantage of the proximity of several more superb long open beaches on the north-west coast of Crete, often backed by verdant green hills and citrus plantations and olive groves. This entire area of superb hill and mountain scenery is easily reached from Platanias beach. Visitors to Platanias could include a trip to the small sandy coves found around the Akoriti area and the wonderful tiny picturesque bay at Stavros.
