Philadelphia Holidays - Visit the City of Brotherly Love for a dose of American history
The City of Brotherly Love, as it is affectionately called, is well-known for its historical importance in the USA, and has long been considered the Birthplace of America. It's the site where the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776, and home to the iconic Liberty Bell as well as many other well-preserved sights from the time. Philadelphia boasts a rich cultural heritage, a thriving arts scene and an impressive array of cosy regional and international restaurants, and offers plenty to see and do if you are on holiday.

Holidays to Philadelphia - Easy city to tour on foot, divided into districts
The city is divided into convenient districts, and very easy to navigate, with one of the best ways to get around being on foot. Most of the famous attractions are located within close proximity to each other, with walking tours a good idea to get the most out of your trip, although the city boasts plenty of options for organized tours by bus, trolley and boat. Most visitors to Philadelphia head straight to the Historic District, home to Independence Hall where the declaration was signed and where the famous Liberty Bell proudly hangs, as well as Congress Hall and Carpenter's Hall. There are regular guided tours of this region, and the area is always packed with tourists. Don't miss a stroll around the rest of the districts, including the charming old Society Hill, bustling Chinatown, the hip district of Old City, the Italian district of South Philly, Rittenhouse Square for excellent shopping, the entertainment centre of Avenue of the Arts, and the waterfront park at Penn's Landing.

Philadelphia Holidays - Highly-regarded dining, thriving cultural scene
Philadelphia is a major cultural centre, home to perhaps the best collection of public art in the country, with over 90 museums in the city. There's a thriving arts scene, with eclectic nightlife and entertainment, and an impressive range of restaurants catering to all styles and budgets, thanks to the diverse immigrant population who settled here. Day trips from Philadelphia include an excursion to the Hershey Chocolate Factory, Pennsylvania Dutch Country to see how the Amish communities live and the lush green countryside of the Brandywine countryside, home to historic battlefields. Further afield, take a train ride to New York, or head to New Jersey to visit the Jersey Shore and Atlantic City.
