Petra – Pleasant beach resort with something for everyone
Petra is on the northern tip of the island of Lesbos just south of the famous town of Molyvos. Petra holidays offer a good stretch of sand and pebble beach on a wide bay, plenty of beach resort amenities and some Greek character away from the seafront. The centre of Petra encircles a huge rock which is capped by the church of Glyfylousa Panagia. 114 steps carved into the rock are rewarded with superb views of Petra and the coast. Below the church is a beautiful jumble of old traditional houses and narrow streets.

Holidays in Petra village are pleasantly traffic-free. While most Petra holiday social life revolves around the cafes and restaurants that line the beach it is well worth exploring the backstreets of the village where there is still a surprisingly authentic Greek atmosphere with some nice old tavernas and cafes and a lively village square. Holidays in Petra have a nice mixture of tourist shops and more traditional shops for the locals along with some galleries and an ouzo distillery. There are plenty of good places for a meal with the seafront restaurants offering unforgettable sunsets. Holidays in Petra have plenty of bars and even a few discos for night time entertainment most of which are near the beach.

Petra holidays – One of the best sandy beaches on the island
Holidays in Petra can supplement the sandy resort beach with several quieter beaches and coves found between here and Anaxos to the west like Avlaki beach which has a pleasant taverna too. Just a 20 minute walk from Petra is the small pleasant resort of Anaxos with a good beach and plenty more tavernas. Between Petra and Moyvos is Eftalou with a tree-lined sandy beach and hot thermal baths. It’s not difficult to find really secluded coves along this stretch of coastline. Inland is the village of Stipsi with enormous tavernas and Greek entertainment. Walking and donkey trekking are popular Petra holiday activities. With Moyvos so close holidays in Petra can enjoy dozens of attractive worthwhile boat excursions from the Molyvos harbour including the beautiful town of Skala Sikaminias, the beach at Tsonia and wildlife trips to Rabbit Island.
