The small village of Paravur lies on the banks of the Ashtamudi Lake, in Kerala, on the southwest coast of India. Located between the Arabian Sea and the lake, the area boasts the largest natural backwater lakes in South Asia. Paravur enjoys a tropical climate, with hot summers, a dry season and a monsoon.

The coastal resort of Paravur sees plenty of sunshine and less humidity than the areas inland. The best time to visit Paravur is during the winter months, from November to March when the temperature hovers around 23C - 25C, there is little rain and the region sees up to 10 hours of sunshine each day. March to May sees high temperatures, sometimes reaching up to 33C, but the resort does see cooling breezes from the Arabian Sea which helps to temper the heat. Summers can see erratic rainfall and occasional storms.

The south west monsoon hits the area from June to September, bringing 260mm - 620mm of rainfall each month and humidity levels of up to 85%. Paravur sees an average rainfall of 2,700mm, with almost all of it falling during the monsoon season, with thunder storms and torrential downpours.
