Paravur holidays
Paravur, located along the Malabar Coast of Kerala, is a resort town surrounded by the beautiful backwaters of the area. Connected to the major commercial centre, Kollam, by both road and rail, Paravur is an important centre for both fishing and coir production. Kollam, or Quillon, which sits on the edge of the Ashtamudi Lake, is well-known for its’ cashew production, and boasts some elegant architecture.

The area around Paravur is picturesque, with the peaceful backwaters home to unique foliage and abundant wildlife, and a tranquil atmosphere. Just 4km to the north of Paravur is Cherai Beach, a beautiful beach resort and a unique combination of the sea and the backwaters, and backed by coconut groves and paddy fields. The waters are safe for swimming and the resort offers speed boats for hire. Also within reach of Paravur is the Mahatma Ghandi Beach, and the unspoilt sands of Kappil.

Paravur is an important centre of coir production, and is well-known for its’ local handloom weaving. The area is rich in temples and churches, with the little village of Mayyaruda nearby, home to many shrines, and the pilgrimage centre of Varkala, with its’ mineral waters and magnificent cliffs, just south of Paravur. Places of interest in Kollam include the hundred-year old Thangassery Lighthouse, standing at 144’ high, and the Adventure Park, lying along the shores of the Astamudi backwaters, with an assortment of luxury cruisers and powerboats to hire.
