Paleochora Holidays
Paleochora Holidays - Lively and likeable popular south coast resort
Paleochora is a popular lively resort on the south-west coast of Crete, 44 miles from Chania Town. The resort is set on a peninsular between two beautiful bays and surrounded by superb countryside with some of the finest coastline, beaches and water sports in Crete. Paleochora will appeal to those looking for a Crete beach destination with plenty of bustling life but remains attractive to those anxious to avoid the really over-developed resorts. Holidays here are also popular with beach-lovers. Paleochora beach is on one side of the town and a small harbour on the other, where you will find more bars and cafes. Venetian ruins overlook the resort.
Paleochora Holidays – Beaches, watersports and nightlife
Paleochora enjoys every facility, including a big selection of bars and tavernas, from small traditional places to modern nightspots and cocktail bars. Discos stay open until late for a night out dancing. There is even an open-air cinema. The centre of the resort becomes an enjoyable traffic-free area by night where visitors tend to congregate and stroll. Paleochora beach has EU blue flags for its cleanliness and is a kilometre-long stretch of good sand. Visitors should try to take a trip to the immense sandy beaches like Konduras beach and Krios beach running for several miles to the west, as well as the isolated coves found with a little effort on foot. Holidays in Paleochora have great water sports facilities that include sailing, underwater fishing, surfing, waterskiing and parachuting.
Holiday in Paleochora – Base for exploration by road, boat and on foot
Walkers in Paleochora will enjoy exploring the tremendous south-west coast of Crete and the lush green countryside stretching to the dramatic rugged White Mountains. The E1 and E4 European walking routes pass through the town. Paleochora makes a good base for exploring villages, resorts, historic sites, monasteries, archaeological cities, caves and gorges. Popular day trips are by boat to Gavdos Island, the southernmost point of Europe and other interesting resorts like Sougia, Sfakia, Agia Roumelli and lovely traffic-less Loutro. Another highlight here is a boat trip to see dolphins and whales.
