Beach
The beaches at Palafrugell offer a good range of options, from wide sandy stretches to remote bays and rocky coves. Calella del Palafrugell is ideal for relaxing sunbathing and swimming, with its wide sandy beach and choice of restaurants and bars. Other beaches to visit include Llafranc or Tamariu.
Water Sports
Fishing, kayaking, sailing, surfing and water skiing can all be enjoyed on a holiday in Palafrugell, and the rocky coastline, with its crystal-clear waters offers ideal conditions for scuba diving and snorkelling.
Sports
Golfers have the choice of 3 courses within a short distance of Palafrugell, and the town has swimming pools, tennis courts, football pitch and a sports centre. Mountain bikes can be rented, local stables in the area offer horse riding, and for the best view of the Costa Brava, there are hot-air balloon rides available.
Coastal Walks
Palafrugell and the surrounding area is home to a rich network of coastal paths that run along the cliff tops and connect each village, leading past picturesque coves, secluded bays, and hidden beaches. Perfect for a leisurely stroll or a more strenuous trek, these paths boast breathtaking views across the Mediterranean, and offer an excellent way to explore the coastline and its sights.
Countryside
As well as discovering the joys of the coastline, walkers can venture inland and discover the lush Catalonian countryside, where there are numerous paths and trails that meander through the wooded hills and valleys, past olive groves, forests, vineyards and hidden villages.
Days Out
Palafrugell has a daily produce market which is interesting to visit, and its colourful Sunday market takes over the village streets. Attractions in the area include the Cap Roig Botanical Gardens (which hosts a Summer Music Festival), an Adventure Park with various outdoor activities, the medieval town of Pals and the gothic centre of Gerona. There is a fascinating Cork museum in town - the only one in Spain - with exhibits and displays showcasing the region's local cork industry.
Eating & Drinking
Parafrugell is a former fishing village, boasting a host of waterfront cafes and seafood restaurants in which to enjoy the local catch of the day. Visitors can tour the region and find charming places in which to enjoy a leisurely lunch or dinner, from authentic tapas bars to elegant eateries, and there are many wineries and vineyards in which to enjoy tastings. Local specialities include fish stew and 'arros negre' (fish cooked in cuttlefish ink).
