Marinas and Seaside Promenade
Opatija’s impressive ACI Marina has been awarded the ‘European Blue Flag’ for cleanliness and for being environmentally responsible. It is worth a visit to see the boats alone, and also has a currency exchange office, a restaurant and café, toilets and showers, a grocery store and souvenir shop. The nearby Marina Admiral is equally impressive and includes access to the Admiral Hotel’s facilities: a restaurant and tavern, hairdresser, beauty parlour, sauna and massage, and a lovely indoor swimming pool. Plus there’s a garage! This lovely coastal path promenade stretches from Preluka to Lovran, a total of 7.5 paved miles of easy walking and wonderful scenery and a wonderful way to drink in the atmosphere of Opatija.
Enjoy Nature
All around Opatija there’s beautiful natural scenery and dense, fragrant laurel woods. And holidaymakers enjoy exploring the countryside. The entire coast is wild and picturesque and includes a handful of smaller winter holiday resorts that are easy to get to from Opatija.
Lovely Town Parks
The enormous Park of Sv Jakov is a horticulturalist’s dream, as well as a great place for picnics and lazy afternoons in the sun. It covers almost four hectares, an enormous area divided up into sixty separate fields containing over 150 species of plants from all over the world.
Festivals and Conventions
Opatija is famous for its festivals and conventions, and it is home to numerous events including music festivals, a chocolate festival, chestnut days, concerts, exhibitions and sporting tournaments including international basketball and bowls. And the town hosts a whole load of national and international sailing regattas and competitive events.

In Opatija there’s an amazing open air summer theatre where films are shown throughout the summer season.

Visit the Villa Angiolina
This beautiful 1844 villa, built by a wealthy merchant from Rijeka, is now a hotel. For many years it was an infamously fashionable holiday destination for the Austrian royal family and nobility, and is now one of the town’s main tourist sites.
Food and Culture
If you fancy a spot of culture, try the Art Pavilion of Juraj Matija Sporer, where regular art exhibitions are held. Opatija is well known for its local and national fish dishes and the town is well served with excellent restaurants, cafes and eateries.
Volosko
Nearby you’ll discover the picturesque old fishing village of Volosko, which has plenty of good places to eat as well as being a great place to explore, giving you a glimpse of how the locals lived in the past.
Bars and Nightlife
With its shifting population of sailors, holidaymakers, locals and visitors attending the town’s many events all year round, Opatija offers a lively nightlife. You’ll enjoy exploring small local places, sophisticated hotel bars and contemporary gastro-pubs, many with gorgeous views over the water.
