Ofir, situated just 35 km from Oporto, is a quiet seaside resort in the beautiful Minho region in the north-west of Portugal. Known as the Costa Verde (Green Coast), this part of Portugal is remarkably unspoilt - full of lush green countryside, rivers and acres of vineyards. The area has a natural charm and beauty, and the sweeping bays along the coastline provide the basis for a scenic relaxing break.

The beach resort of Ofir is one of the best on this stretch of coastline, and with gorgeous scenery and a good choice of hotels to choose from, it is an ideal choice for a quiet holiday. Surrounded by pine forests and backed by sand dunes, the dramatic sandy beach on the Atlantic is both long and wide, dotted with rocky outcrops, and a popular venue for windsurfers. The resort of Ofir offers some bars and restaurants, with more choice available at nearby Fao, a couple of kilometers inland. Situated at the mouth of the River Cavado, Fao is great for fishing and canoeing, and dates back to Roman times. Opposite Ofir lies the resort of Esposende, an old fishing town also on the banks of the river, with its’ historic old building and charming town squares.

Whilst visiting the scenic resort of Ofir, a car is recommended to explore the rest of the Costa Verde. The scenery of this region is tranquil and beautiful, and the lush green hills and valleys are home to copious vineyards producing famous Portuguese wines such as Vinho Verde and Rose. The many charming hillside towns are home to beautiful churches and castles and the nations’ second city, Oporto, is an easy day trip from Ofir – an elegant historical place, with great shopping, restaurants and nightlife, and famous for being the home of Port Wine.
