Many small beach camps along the sand dunes make Nuweiba a popular holiday destination for backpackers and budget travellers, providing cheap accommodation with a communal atmosphere. The diving in Nuweiba is fantastic - the coastline offers soft and hard coral reefs, and feature ravines, canyons and drop-offs home to barracuda, snappers, razorfish, seahorses, turtles and moray eels - and the resort is a favourite with underwater photographers. Nuweiba also offers wonderful shore diving and calm waters, making it an ideal place in which to learn to scuba-dive, and for snorkellers.

Nuweiba is a small traditional town, ideal for those looking for somewhere quiet and laid-back. Divided into three main areas, the town of Nuweiba encompasses Tarabeen, in the north, with a fairly lively promenade stretching for 3km, and a colourful atmosphere thanks to the restaurants and bazaars, the administrative centre, Nuweiba City and the Port area, the industrial centre. The hotels in Nuweiba offer discos, live music and entertainment, with popular evening trips including a traditional Bedouin dinner in the desert. Day trips from Nuweiba include St. Katherines' Monastery and Mount Sinai, camel trips and jeep tours, and mini-tours to Coloured Canyon and White Canyon. Ferries leave Nuweiba Port regularly for Jordan and Petra.
