North Goa - More of a party atmosphere than the south North Goa is a lively mix of colourful markets and restaurants offering delicious specialities and is generally regarded as having more of a party atmosphere than the south. The north of Goa, has some of the finest beaches edged by tall cliffs including Calangute, Baga, Anjuna, Vagator and Chapora with an old fort overlooking the beach. Arambol Beach has a fresh water pond at the base of a forested hill. Tourism first began in Goa in the resort of Calangute, which was once a popular hang out for hippies. Today it is better known for its beaches and great bars and restaurants. To the south, the quieter resort of Candolim, has a selection of beach shacks and shops and a great choice of restaurants. To the north of Calangute is the lively the resort of Baga is with a range of hotels shops and restaurants.
