Wind-surfing
With reliable strong breezes from the northern Meltimi winds, warm shallow seas, contained bays and lagoons and offshore flat reefs, conditions on Naxos are perfect for wind surfing. The most popular activity on the island, wind surfing can be enjoyed in a variety of beaches, namely those on the west coast such as Agios Georgios, Plaka and Mikri Vigla.
Water sports
As well as wind surfing, other sports to enjoy on Naxos include kite surfing, wake boarding, water skiing, tubing and canoeing. Beach volleyball is played on many beaches, and snorkelling and fishing trips are available.
Sailing and island-hopping
Charter a yacht and discover the beauty of the Aegean whilst sailing around Naxos, enjoying the charm of the island and the view of its coastline from the water. The rest of the Cyclades Islands can be reached from Naxos, including Paros, Mykonos and Andros, and as the island is one of Greeces' main ferry hubs, most of the islands can be accessed from here.
Walking and hiking
An agricultural island, very green and fertile, Naxos is a walkers' dream, and ideal for exploring on foot. With a huge amount of paths and trails crossing the countryside and its mountainous terrain, you'll pass by traditional villages, olive groves and orchards, and ancient castles, monasteries and churches. Hiking on Naxos is a great way to see the real beauty of the island, and there are many specialised walking trips available.
Horse-riding
Whether a beginner or a seasoned rider, the countryside of Naxos is perfect for discovering on horseback, and the many trails offer up the hidden delights of the island. Choose from the many off-the-beaten-track routes inland, or marvel at the glorious coastal views on a ride along the great beaches on the island. Sunset rides are a great way to spend an evening.
Cycling
Biking enthusiasts will enjoy the many different cycling routes on Naxos, whether they choose the challenges of the mountainous terrain on the island, or the scenic coastal routes with their magnificent views. For more leisurely cycling, bikes can be rented from many of the resorts.
