Holidays in Montechoro
Montechoro, on the outskirts of Albufeira, the largest and liveliest resort in the Algarve, is a popular family holiday resort, ideally placed for the great nightlife of the area and the regions’ sandy beaches. The area has seen lots of development in recent years, and is now home to some comfortable large hotels and apartment complexes, providing excellent amenities and comfortable accommodation.
Holidays in Montechoro – Sandy beaches nearby
Whilst staying in Montechoro, visitors can visit the wonderful sandy beach at Praia d’Oura, just 10 minutes away from the resort. Known as the ‘Golden Beach’, Praia d’Oura is a stretch of golden sand, curving around a wide bay, and protected by the colourful sandstone cliffs which are found all over this part of the Algarve. Watersports are available at Praia d’Oura, including windsurfing, waterskiing, jet ski hire and banana boat rides. Plenty of boats are on hand to offers leisurely excursions up and down the coastline, and fishing trips are readily available. For more secluded beaches, numerous small quieter coves can be reached from the resort of Montechoro, including the tiny beach at Praia dos Aveiros, home to a scuba-diving school, Santa Eulalia and Praia Maria Luisa.
Holidays in Montechoro – Convenient for the nightlife
Montechoro itself has a busy centre, full of shops, bars and restaurants, but the resort itself is situated at the north end of the famous ‘Strip’, the new town of Albufeira. Crowded and always full of life, the busy streets of the strip are home to plenty of shops, tourist bars and all manner of restaurants, and a wide variety of clubs, including one of Portugals’ famous discos, Kiss. The Old Town of Albufeira offers a more traditional taste of Portugal, with great fish restaurants and a wonderful open-air market. Whilst staying in Montechoro, other activities to enjoy away from the beach include nearby tennis, lawn bowling, ten-pin bowling, and of course, golf.
