Holidays in Monastir

Monastir Holidays – Enjoyable Tunisia beach resort
Breaks in Monastir combine an enjoyable modern Tunisia beach resort with an interesting attractive town set on a headland at the southern end of the Gulf of Hammamet, on the north-east coast of Tunisia, 15 miles east of Sousse and a short transfer from Monastir airport. The resort enjoys a superb climate and fine long white Mediterranean beaches. Most hotels here face the beach: a splendid stretch of clean white sand shelving gently into turquoise water. Watersports include scuba diving, waterskiing, windsurfing and fishing. Activities could also include horse riding, camel riding, golf, tennis and exciting desert safaris.

Holidays in Monastir – Fine white sand and relaxed promenade cafes

Monastir holidays centre on an attractive seafront promenade and a modern marina with superior restaurants offering local and international cuisine. While breaks here tend to focus on the seafront hotels it’s worth sampling pavement cafes and economic Monastir restaurants serving traditional cuisine. Organised Bedouin feasts are a local favourite. The resort nightlife revolves around quiet relaxing cafes on the promenade and the entertainment provided in most Monastir hotels. For something different try the casino in Sousse.

Monastir Holidays – A bustling medina and a famous waterfront fortress

Essential Monastir sights include the Bourguiba Mausoleum and the waterfront ribat. This ancient Muslim fortress is one of the finest in North Africa and has regularly been used as a film set, including Monty Python’s Life of Brian. It houses a fine museum of Islamic art. The medina or old town has 9th century walls, pretty patios, minarets and mosques. Holidays here are not complete without exploring this fascinating maze of alleyways packed with local goods like leather, jewellery, copperware and carpets. Visitors could also include trips to the fascinating markets in Hammamet and Sousse. The resort offers many fascinating excursions ranging from short trips to Hammamet, Sousse and the amazing Roman amphitheatre at El Jem to longer day trips to Tunis and ancient Carthage.
