Monarch Reaches £1 Million Worth Of PayPal Flights

Friday, 07 March 2008

Airline of the year Monarch has reached £1 million worth of online sales using PayPal. When PayPal was first introduced by Monarch last year, it became the first European airline to do so. Monarch scheduled services managing director Liz Savage was understandably pleased:

“We are delighted to have reached £1 million-worth of sales so quickly through our association with PayPal...“We are still the only European airline to offer the PayPal payment option and since launch back in October 2007 sales have grown significantly.”

PayPal users can book Monarch flights, make changes to existing bookings, upgrade a booking or add passengers as well as pay for additional extras like holding baggage. PayPal merchant services general manager Cameron McLean said:

“Online shopping amongst UK adults has increased by 157% in the last five years with 28 million adults actively transacting on the cyber high street and buying flights has never been easier or more secure.”

McLean added that it was the airlines reputation as an innovative company which persuaded them to offer PayPal to Monarch first of all. Monarch was recently named as 'Leisure Airline of the Year' in prestigious travel industry awards and is also a key supplier of airliners to the tour operating industry.

“We decided to launch with flyMonarch.com first in Europe as they are clearly innovators in the airline industry, who focus on constantly improving their customers’ experience, which matches PayPal’s ethos". Monarch Airlines is based in Luton, England and is one of the United Kingdom’s largest charter airlines, operating to Europe, the United States, the Caribbean, India and Africa serving mainly leisure destinations.
