General Things To Do Weather
See the Historical Sights
Mijas is a delightfully quaint hill village, full of steep cobbled streets and little stone houses and with spectacular views overlooking the Costa del Sol. Discovered by hippies in the 60s, it is now a very cosmopolitan place and people of many nationalities live there. The village’s mediaeval Arabic layout gives Mijas an exotic feel, a refreshing change from the modern clutter of the resorts below.

Beaches
Mijas sits close by a number of coastal resorts including Calahonda, Riviera del Sol and Cala de Mijas. So from there you’ve got easy access to miles and miles of the best coves and beaches on the Costa del Sol.

Donkey Rides
It’s great fun to explore Mijas by burro-taxi, or donkey taxi, which you can pick up in the village’s central square. Mijas is only a small village but its many narrow streets are all pretty steep and, in the heat, it’s good to sit back and enjoy the ride!

Culture and Fun
Visit Carromato de Max, a truly quirky collection of miniature objects including a shrunken human head – guaranteed to keep the kids fascinated! Ermita de la Virgen de la Pena is a lovely little shrine to the village’s patron saint, carved by monks in the 1500s into solid rock. There’s a bullfighting museum, and the Plaza de Toros is still used for bullfights to this day.

Festivals and Events
There are several local festivals, the main one being the Romeria de San Anton, held on the first Sunday in May, complete with Spanish horsemen, horses and carriages. There’s a popular street market, called El Barratillo, held each Wednesday and Saturday and selling fresh fruit and vegetables, local crafts, clothing, local pottery, flowers and everything else you’d expect from a thriving rural market.

Nightlife
Mijas is a quiet, residential place once the holidaymakers leave for the day! If you want lively nightlife it’s best to make a beeline for Mijas Costa or nearby Torremolinos. You won’t have to go far to find all the pubs, bars, restaurants, cafes, clubs and discos you could possibly need!

Visit La Cala de Mijas
Close by you’ll discover La Cala. There, on Saturday nights, the beachfront promenade turns into a carnival with classical music, local folk music and flamenco dancing. The village celebrates Noches de Luna y Playa (Nights of Moonlight and Beach) throughout the summer months.

Lively Mijas Costa

Twenty minutes drive away is Mijas Costa, 7.5 miles of fine coastline encompassing resorts like El Chaparral, El Combo, Riviera del Sol and Sitio de Calahonda. Here, life is totally contemporary, and you’ll find an enormous choice of fun things to do in and on the sea including jet skiing, waterskiing, windsurfing, paragliding and much more.
