Mijas holidays, on the Costa del Sol, just 30 minutes from Malaga airport, is a typical Andalusian village, offering a quaint and charming atmosphere with plenty of facilities for a relaxing beach holiday. Nestling in the mountains, Mijas was originally a Moorish settlement, and the village with its’ narrow streets and traditional whitewashed houses retains an Arabic appearance, whilst Mijas Costa encompasses the coastal area, with numerous wonderful sandy beaches. Mijas is an attractive and charming resort, offering stunning views of both the surrounding green mountains and the azure blue sea.

The highly developed Mijas Costa stretches for 12km and is home to a great choice of hotels and apartments, with plenty of tourist facilities. Mijas Costa includes such great beaches as Calaburras, El Farillo La Butibamba and the popular La Cala - the Blue Flag beach with great facilities for families, clean waters, lifeguards and plenty of watersports. Visitors to Mijas can stroll along the promenade at La Cala and enjoy the extensive beach bars and restaurants. Behind the coast lies the commercial centre of Las Lagunas, with numerous services and residential areas, and sitting high up in the mountains is the historic village, known as Mijas Peublo. Here, traditional life still carries on throughout this charming Andalusian village, with donkeys as a mode of transport and ancient churches alongside the whitewashed houses.

The tourist district of Mijas Costa offers a host of things to do, from scuba-diving and sailing to surfing and jet-skiing, and the area is fantastic for golfers, with an excellent choice of world-class courses close by. The regions of Sitio de Calahonda and Rivio de Calahonda are packed with a vast array of bars, restaurants, hotels and golf courses, providing convenient amenities for English-speaking tourists. Up in Mijas Pueblo, there are historic churches to visit and attractions such as the unique square bullring, and the Museo de Miniaturas, housing unusual mini works of art to see. Whilst holidaying in Mijas, don’t miss the famous donkey-taxi rides, or a chance to shop for the wonderful Andalusian crafts made here, such as hand-painted pottery, leather goods and woven baskets.
