Mexico Tourism Growth

Thursday, 12 April 2007

mexico holidaysMexico holidays are continuing to show strong signs of a tourism recovery following the devastating Hurricane Wilma which struck in 2005 by investing in new hotels. Cancun, one of Mexico’s most popular beach resorts underwent an audacious and massive restoration program which now seems to have done the impossible, doubling the size of the sandy playground for money-spending tourists. Hotels lining Cancun's eight-mile strip of beach have also undergone their own renovation as most took advantage of the compulsory break after the hurricane to install spas and other luxury amenities. Tourists in 2007 will find Cancun holidays offer a swankier and more expensive option than before.  Hotel occupancy is currently at around 80 %, which is the same as before the storm, an extraordinary comeback for a resort nearly flattened in October 2005. "It's a totally renovated destination and that has never happened before in the world," states Jesus Almaguer Salazar, president of the Cancun Hotel Association. "The restoration job gave us the chance to get back into the market quick, which was important for us."

Embassy Suites Hotels has also announced the opening of its first hotel in Mexico City – Reforma. The property is located in Mexico City’s business district. Meanwhile, Donald Trump will open a luxury hotel-condominium in Mexico’s Baja Norte region when construction is completed by the end of 2008. A number of airlines are launching new routes to the country promising a bright future for the Latin American destination.
