Menorca weather - The coolest and wettest of the Balearics
Because of its northern location in the Balearics, Menorca is the coolest and the wettest of all the islands. Menorca is also known as the 'windy island', due to a total of eight prevailing winds that blow throughout the area. The most prevelant is the harsh 'tramontana' wind which blows from the north, especially during the winter, bringing changeable weather. As the island is relatively flat, the winds have shaped the Menorcan countryside, creating a landscape of rolling green hills and broad valleys. Menorca is home to the first wind farm in the Balearics, which serves to harness the renewable energy generated by these strong northern winds.
