Mauritius Weather - A year round warm climate The small and densely populated holiday island of Mauritius has a tropical climate affording year round fine weather and plentiful sunshine. It is made up of coastal plains and volcanic hills which can affect the climatic pattern. While enjoying long days of sunshine, the heat is more moderate than other islands in the region and offers comfortable temperatures in which to indulge in energetic pursuits and outdoor sports. Although rain can fall at any time, Mauritius weather sees a distinct rainy season during winter which produces slightly higher temperatures and added humidity which can become unpleasant.
Weather in Mauritius - Excellent sunshine record Rainfall in summer is minimal with fine dry weather continuing right up until October. Temperatures are moderately hot at 26c with 7 to 8 hours of daily sunshine, although strong sea breezes can occur from time to time. Daytime heat is rarely overbearing and sea temperatures remain warm and welcoming. This represents the ideal time to visit, particularly for families with an enviable sunshine record, virtually guaranteed clear blue skies and pleasant temperatures. Weather in Mauritius does suffer from high humidity year round which can be uncomfortable for those unaccustomed to a tropical climate.
Mauritius Weather - Warm winter temperatures December to April sees the majority of rainfall which can become prolonged and heavy accompanied by winds. The winter months also enjoy the warmest temperatures with up to 30c recorded in January and an excellent 7 hours of sunshine despite the possibility of wet weather. The south coast and central region receives most of the rain - up to twice as much as elsewhere - with higher ground also prone to downpours. Most days will nevertheless see a good deal of daytime sunshine and even in overcast conditions will feel pleasantly warm.
