Malgrat nightlife is reasonably lively but not overwhelming, with plenty of bars and several discos along the seafront. For variety, daytrips could include a short drive to the neighbouring purpose-built resort of Santa Susana or the family resort of Blanes to the north or the livelier resort of Calella, which has plenty of well-organised beach activities, open-air family entertainment and a busy lively nightlife scene with no shortage of animated bars and discos.

Malgrat visitors can make use of a minitrain for getting around the resort while regular coast trains are an excellent way of visiting other Costa Brava beaches. Buses run north to the immensely popular resort of Lloret de Mar. Malgrat offers plenty of excursions. Children will enjoy Waterworld, the dolphinarium at Blanes and the exciting Port Aventura theme park. Breaks here could also include first class golf. Other worthwhile excursions include Montserrat monastery and the lovely medieval centre of Gerona. Trains are a superb economical way to visit the fabulous city of Barcelona and regular ferries run along the coast to Tossa de Mar. Breaks in Malgrat are not complete without a visit to Palafolls castle.
