Our Review of Malaga...
Malaga tends to get overlooked by British visitors rushing off to the popular Costa del Sol beach resorts and in many ways this works to its advantage. Directly accessed from dozens of UK airports, Malaga offers a far better insight into life in southern Spain than many of the tourist-dominated resorts on the coast. Malaga’s beaches, economical restaurants and superb weather attract tourists but it is large enough to maintain its Andalusian identity. Malaga has an impressive cathedral, the Moorish Alcazaba, a famous bullring, a charming old city packed with authentic tapas bars and bodegas, and a thriving cultural life with concerts, museums, galleries, a strong flamenco scene, unforgettable Easter processions and a superb summer music festival. Malaga nightlife is a buzzing reflection of contemporary Spanish style rather than tourist-dominated discos and pubs. Malaga’s pleasant beach suburbs like El Palo hide fantastic fish and seafood restaurants. Great excursions to picturesque, white mountain villages like Benaojan and Benahavis and the fabulous mountain town of Ronda. This likeable, cosmopolitan city is just minutes from Malaga airport, making it a great low-season city break on the sunny Mediterranean.

Pluck up courage and try some of the old-fashioned wine bars and definitely take a trip to Ronda which is absolutely gorgeous and very dramatic.”

“If you only know places like Fuengirola and Torremolinos get yourself to Malaga. The streets are full of people in the summer but most of them are locals. All kinds of nightlife from flamenco to flashy nightclubs. It’s a lot more earthy than Marbella and has still got loads of nice old bars and workers restaurants.”

“We enjoyed Malaga as a base for exploring Andalusia. Hire a car and head off to the mountains and the national parks. Ronda is lovely and there are good roads to Granada and Seville which are both must sees. Loved the fact you could be somewhere so Spanish (and so hot in April!) just a few miles from the airport. The beaches are ok but its the atmosphere that makes it”
