Beaches
Machico has both a popular pebble beach and a recently added golden sand beach. The sand for the new beach has been imported from the Western Sahara and has become very popular with local and holiday makers alike. The facilities on Machico Beach are excellent with lifeguards, nearby restaurants, and an abundance of water sports activities.
Boat Trips
There are many exciting boat trips available from Machico and sailing around Madeira is one of the most memorable experiences. Full day trips can include excursions to the Desertas Islands and to Porto Santo. Spotting the Dolphins, Turtles, and Whales will be one of the voyage highlights. Trips can also include lunch and dinner on board and stopping of at beaches and lagoons for a quick dip.
Golf
The climate in Machico makes golf an all year round activity, and there are three excellent golf courses on Madeira. The Santa da Serra golf course offers a 27-hole course with spectacular views over the bay of Machico. The course, which contains four lakes, is also the venue for the annual Madeira Island Open and is suitable for golfers of all skill levels.
Sports Activities
There are plenty of sports activities available in Machico thanks to the all year round warm climate. Diving, surfing, jet-skiing, sailing, deep seas fishing and paragliding are just a few of the activities available. Take a guided walking tour and explore the natural beauty of Madeira’s volcanic landscape filled with waterfalls, canyons and of course the ancient Laurisilva Forest.
Restaurants
Machico holidays offer a good selection of restaurants, cafes and bars. As you would expect, the seafood and fish dishes are the freshest available and there are some excellent restaurants by the bay where diners can watch the spectacular sunsets. The hotel restaurants also offer a wide range of dining options plus buffets that can change on a daily basis.
