Luperon Things To Do
Beach
The purpose-built resort centres around the beach which sits in a large bay, and boasts white sands, clear waters, and an abundance of shade provided by palm trees that line the coast.
Water Sports
Water sports available in Luperon are scuba-diving, windsurfing, canoeing and kayaking. Deep-sea fishing trips are available, and sail boat trips depart from the marina - the only safe harbour in the Caribbean.
Sports & Leisure
Swimming pools, tennis courts and pool tables can be found at the hotels, with table-tennis, archery, volleyball, water-polo and water-aerobics available.
Golf
Visitors can enjoy a round at the Playa Dorada Golf Course in Puerto Plata - an 18-hole par-72 course, whilst taking in the tropical Caribbean sunshine and stunning scenery.
Touring
Motorbikes are the most popular way of getting around, with bike rentals available from the resort, enabling tourists to get out and discover the beauty of the coastline and interior countryside, whilst jeep tours can show visitors more remote parts of the island.
Countryside
The adventurous can venture inland and hike through tropical rainforests and past natural waterfalls, whilst beginner and experienced horse riders can follow tracks and trails through the hills and along the many coastal paths, and explore the surrounding area.
Parks Attractions
Ocean World Park, a zoo and marine park just outside Puerto Plata features a dolphin lagoon, aquarium, shark pool, sea lions and tiger feeding area. Fun City Action Park is home to a go-kart racing track, and the Columbus Aqua Park, located in Sosua, is the largest water park in the Caribbean.
Day Trips
The city of Puerto Plata offers a taste of the combined Caribbean and Latin culture that the island displays, and features a cable-car ride to the city's botanical gardens, museums, shops and rum factories to tour. La Isabela National Park is ideal for walks, and Cabarete, the major water sports centre is an easy drive.
