Basic pensions are available in the village of Luperon, more suited to the independant or budget traveller. The Puerto Blanca Marina, a popular docking spot for vessels of all sizes, sits just outside the town of Luperon, and provides the only safe harbour in the Dominican Republic.
Holidays in Luperon - Close to the La Isabela Nightlife in Luperon is based around the hotels, which organise various types of evening entertainment. Most of the restaurants can be found in the hotels, but for a change, the village of Luperon is home to some local restaurants which offer authentic Dominican specialities. Daily buses run to the port city of Puerto Plata, some 50 kms away, and another popular day trip from Luperon is the protected park of La Isabela, site of the first Spanish settlement founded by Christopher Columbus, which lies just 20 kms away. Jeep tours are popular and a fun way to explore the surrounding areas.
