Lunn Poly Holidays - Rebranded as Thomson since 2004 Lunn Poly was created back in 1965 when Poly Tours, set up for students back in 1888 to provide cheap holidays abroad, merged with a rival travel company owned by Sir Henry Lunn. Then, during the 1970's Lun Poly was bought by a large stock market firm in Germany - TUI. Lunn Poly had been a leading, well known travel agent in the Uk for the past 100 years employing 6000+ people with around 800 high street shops. Although TUI advised that they would not rebrand Lunn Poly, in November 2004 Lunn Poly was rebranded Thomson.
Lunn Poly - Customers shying away from the traditional high street travel agent TUI commented that the way people are booking and researching holidays has had a negative impact on sales throughout their high street-based travel agents. People are now turning their efforts to the internet, booking holidays & researching last minute deals. TUI wanted to embrace this shift & focus the customer on Thomson as a brand through the use of websites, advertising & existing high street shops.
