Holidays in Loule - A pretty market town
Loule, just 20 minutes from Faro, is a pretty market town, and its’ famous workshops and stalls attract holidaymakers from all over the Algarve. One of the largest inland towns on the Algarve, Loule has distinct Roman and Moorish origins, and retains an old-world charm with its’ 12th century castle ruins, beautiful churches and architecture.
Loule Holidays – Stroll round the lively Saturday market
Loule is well-known for its’ weekly Saturday market, and traders from all over the area come to set up stalls and sell all manner of goods. A hive of bustling activity, Loule market sells anything from locally made crafts, including pottery, leather and silver, to foodstuff such as delicious olives, cheeses and fresh produce, even live chickens. The market gets extremely busy so arrive early, and then continue the day with a browse around the gypsy flea market, also held on Saturday mornings. Loule is also home to a number of traditional workshops, where artisans still produce such handicrafts as leatherware, copper and silverware, lace, hand-painted pottery and woven baskets - all ideal for souvenirs or gifts. As well as the markets and workshops selling crafts, Loule also boasts some good modern shopping streets too, with chic boutiques and well-equipped supermarkets, and the town centre is home to some great traditional Portuguese restaurants.
Holidays in Loule – Travel south to some great beach resorts
Loule is surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Algarve, with rolling green hills and olive groves, yet the fantastic beaches along the coast lie just 20 minutes away. Directly south of Loule are the luxury resorts of Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo, with their upscale shopping and dining, and extensive sporting facilities, Quarteira, formerly a simple fishing village and now a heavily developed tourist spot, and Vilamoura, with its’ vibrant marina. All the coastal resorts close to Loule have long sandy beaches and are easily accessible from the historic town.
