Thanks to its consistently warm weather Tenerife is known as ‘The Island of Eternal Spring’. The landscape is dominated by Mount Teide, a volcano so huge that it affects the weather conditions, splitting the island into two climactic regions. The north is usually cooler and there is more rainfall, making it greener, while the south is warmer and sunnier, with coastal areas being warmest. Holidays in Los Gigantes, on the south-west coast, have perhaps the best conditions for holidaymakers of anywhere on the island.

Los Gigantes has near perfect weather for sun seekers at almost any time of the year, with average daily highs ranging from 23C in January and February to around 28C or 29C from July to October, with cooling trade winds from the north to keep the humidity down and make it comfortable enough for activities such as hiking or golf. The wind can change direction and bring particles of sand and very hot temperatures from the Sahara but this affects Tenerife less than the other Canary Islands further east. Anyone travelling around can choose their own weather conditions. If it’s a little too warm in Los Gigantes, visitors could head for the dense forests surrounding the Anaga Mountains or climb Mount Teide, which is sometimes covered in snow even when the weather is warm elsewhere.

Not only is Los Gigantes on the sunny south west coast but the cliffs themselves protect the harbour and sea from the wind, which is one reason this area is so popular with divers. Another is the sea temperature which ranges from 18-19C in winter to 25-26C in summer. There is barely enough rain to register at all during the summer months and only occasional showers in winter. With average temperatures varying so little from season to season, Los Gigantes is an ideal location for escaping the winter here or seeking out some guaranteed summer sun.
