Tenerife has an average of 320 days of sunshine each year and the lowest temperature difference between summer and winter of anywhere in the world. On rare occasions a dust-laden wind, the Calima, can blow over from the Sahara and raise the temperature for anything from a few hours to a few days. Normally, however, the temperature is moderated by a combination of the Canarian cold current and the trade winds from the north. Despite the so-called ‘cold current’, the water is warm and pleasant all year. Sea temperatures ranging from 18-19° in winter to 25-26° in summer make Los Cristianos a perfect destination for water sports enthusiasts.

Mount Teide, which is often snow-capped, doesn’t just dominate the island’s landscape; it also affects the weather, with the north of the island being lush and green while the south is extremely dry and sunny. Visitors are very unlikely to see rain in the summer in Los Cristianos, and there’s not very much in the winter either, but the island’s weather station is near the capital, Santa Cruz, in the north, so don’t be surprised if the actual weather for Los Cristianos is warmer and sunnier than that shown in the island’s reports. This coast has some of the best weather for sun seekers in the whole of the Canaries.
