Holidays in Los Gigantes The resort of Los Gigantes, a stunning resort set in a rocky cove facing the Atlantic, is named for the unique vertical cliffs found in the town, protruding up to 800m over the sea. Los Gigantes, or ‘The Cliffs of the Giants’, is located on the western coast of Tenerife and home to a very small sandy beach and a busy yacht marina.
Holidays in Los Gigantes – Stunning vertical rocks protruding out of the sea At the foot of the cliffs lies the small beach of Los Gigantes - composed of black volcanic sand, the beach here is good for families and doesn’t get too crowded. Next to the beach is the bustling marina of Los Gigantes, the hub of the resort, home to both expensive yachts and fishing vessels, and the departing point for the many popular boat trips up and down the coastline. This is the best way to experience the dramatic cliffs of Los Gigantes up close, and also a fun way to spot the colonies of dolphins and whales that swim in these waters. Los Gigantes is an attractive and somewhat exclusive resort, with traditional low-rise hotels and apartment buildings blending well into the town, and a good range of shops selling everything from souvenirs to designer labels. Built into the cliff face, Los Gigantes is home to some steep and winding narrow streets, with most of the facilities situated uphill from the front. The centre of Los Gigantes has a pedestrianised area based around the old church, and offers a good choice of bars, restaurants and shops.
Holidays in Los Gigantes – Relaxing and scenic, with an appealing village atmosphere Los Gigantes offers a quiet relaxing base for couples or families (although parents might find the steep streets fairly challenging with pushchairs), with this part of Tenerife generally boasting the best weather on the island. Diving, sailing and deep-sea fishing are all available from the marina at Los Gigantes For those in search of a much larger beach, Playa de la Arena, just a few kilometers south of Los Gigantes, is a Blue Flag beach and regarded as the best in the area. Puerto Santiago, an original fishing village and now a modern yet tranquil resort, is Los Gigantes’ closest neighbour, and both La Arena and Puerto Santiago can be reached on foot, a scenic 30 minute walk across the cliffs.
