Lisbon Coast Reviews
Our Review of the Lisbon Coast...
The Lisbon Coast has a strikingly different atmosphere from the southern Algarve coast of Portugal. The Lisbon coast region attracts far fewer foreign visitors and hence feels far more genuinely Portuguese in character. In addition the Lisbon Coast is home to some of the most idiosyncratic and characterful resorts in Portugal: sophisticated Estoril with its mansions, luxury hotels and fabulous casino, charmingly easy-going Cascais with its gourmet restaurants and thriving cultural life, and amazing Sintra with its romantic fantastical castles, palaces, follies and gardens. Spectacular, sweeping, sandy beaches on the Estoril Coast, the Costa da Caparica and the Troia Peninsula are some of the best beaches in Portugal. Nicely varied resorts like Carcavelos, Praia Grande and Ericeira attract Portuguese families, feature excellent Portuguese restaurants and are conveniently linked by regular coast trains. There are superb excursions to fishing villages like Portinho da Arrabida and beautiful scenery like the Sintra-Cascais National Park and the Tejo estuary. The Lisbon coast attracts keen golfers, birdwatchers, walkers and surfers. And at the heart of the region is the fascinating city of Lisbon itself, easily accessible from any Lisbon coast resort.
Customer Reviews of the Lisbon Coast...
“It’s amazing this area doesn’t get more publicity. Blissfully free of British pubs etc the whole region has tremendous character. Loved all the old early 20th century building and faded grandeur in Sintra and Cascais. It’s really easy to get into Lisbon which has a great cosmopolitan bar and music scene.”

“If you like huge exhilarating dramatic beaches get yourself to Praia do Guincho on the Lisbon coast. Fantastic weather in the summer but the Brits think the Atlantic doesn’t get good weather so there’s loads of space even in August! Go to the old-fashioned casino in Estoril for a different night out.”
L Taylor, Manchester UK
“Lovely holiday in Carcavelos. Nice homely family feeling and blessedly free of Sunday roasts and all that. Portugal has an incredibly different atmosphere from Spain and the Lisbon resorts are a great place to get a feel of it. The weather and the beaches are great but it’s probably best not to let on!”
