Online holiday company Lastminute.com has now extended its carbon offsetting scheme to also include its dynamically packaged holidays. The ‘Carbonwise’ scheme, which initially launched in November 2006 for flight-only bookings, will now feature on products such as city breaks from June 2007.
Lastminute.com claim that more than one in ten of their flight-only customers are in favour of the scheme and have used the service, provide by Climate Care. These figures equate to around 7,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
Lastmintue.com chief executive Ian McCaig said: “I’m confident the expansion of the scheme into dynamic packaging will see even more customers support the carbonwise initiative.” When customers book on the Lastminute.com website, a ‘carbon calculator’ will analyse and display the carbon dioxide emissions of a flight and the cost of the offset. The customer is then invited to offset their flight emissions.
