The south coast, where the popular tourist resorts are located, see sunnier drier weather, whereas conditions in Las Palmas generally remain cooler and wetter.

The island of Gran Canaria is separated by the high mountains in the centre, which divide the island into two distinct regions, resulting in larger amounts of rainfall in the northern parts, and more cloud cover. This is reflected in the landscape, which is greener and more fertile than in the south. Las Palmas itself receives the most rain in September, with December and January seeing the highest number of rainy days throughout the year, helping to maintain the lush greenery of the region. Temperatures remain extremely mild during the winter in Las Palmas, with lows only dropping to an average of 14C throughout the season.
