Originally part of Mexico, Las Vegas became the city we know it as today in 1911. Gambling was legalised in the 1930s in the city with the opening of Bugsy Siegel's Flamingo Hotel on what would become the Las Vegas Strip in 1946. In the 1970s, Siegfried and Roy were introduced to the Frontier Hotel, the first magicians to astonish Las Vegas with their larger-than-life performance. Vegas is now host to over a dozen such magic acts, including Penn and Teller and Lance Burton, meaning you will never fail to be astounded. The opening of The Mirage in 1989 began the era of mega-resort casinos starting a movement away from downtown Las Vegas towards today’s exhilarating Las Vegas Strip.
