There are good beaches at the island’s cheerful capital Arrecife and wilder unspoilt beaches at Papagayo close to Playa Blanca. Lanzarote offers superb safe conditions for learning watersports like windsurfing, kite sailing, parasailing and scuba diving, particularly around Costa Teguise. Lanzarote offers restaurants to suit all budgets and tastes with authentic tapas bars and fish restaurants alongside more predictable tourist offerings. Lanzarote holidays offer plenty of nightlife while avoiding over-the-top excess. Puerto del Carmen is the biggest, liveliest and most popular resort on Lanzarote with the island’s most animated and varied nightlife. Matagorda and Playa de los Porcillos are quieter beach resorts from which to enjoy the scene at Puerto del Carmen. Playa Blanca is quieter and a little more upmarket. For a less tourist centred Lanzarote experience, try Arrecife, a small friendly animated city set around an attractive natural harbour.
